School on Atomic and Molecular Data

We are pleased to announce the first “International School on Atomic and Molecular Data Evaluation and Curation” organised by the University of Valladolid, Spain with support from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA and in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The School, which is targeting advanced graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and young researchers, will be held from 22 – 25 October 2023 in the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Valladolid (Spain). It will focus on advanced techniques and good practices regarding analysis, critical compilation and treatment of experimental and theoretical atomic and molecular data. The objectives of the school are:
• Training of early-career researchers on critical compilation and curation of atomic and molecular data.
• Developing skills for atomic and molecular data description and classification (metadata descriptors, FAIR data principles and similar).
• Establishment of collaborations and partnerships among participants.
• Networking, knowledge exchange and capacity-building within the atomic data community.
The school will consist of several lectures per day, an exercise session and a poster session at which the participants will share their research work. There will be ample time for interaction between participants and lecturers. The number of participants is expected to be around 30.
The main topics covered in this school will be:
• Atomic structure, radiative transitions, and atomic collisions
• Modern methods in atomic physics
• Basic data uncertainties, data interpolation and extrapolation
• Measurement of experimental atomic parameters and sources of uncertainty
• Molecular spectroscopy
• Calculation of opacities
• Spectroscopy of dense plasmas
• Atomic and molecular databases and FAIR data principles
Registration for the school is free, however, the participants will be selected based upon their record and relevance of their research to the scope of the school. Accordingly, the applicants are expected to submit their CV, a recommendation letter from the supervisor, and a short abstract of their poster. Registration for the School will be open until 20 July 2023 and can be done through the following website:
