We open a 13-months post-doc position to initiate the development of precision molecular spectroscopy in the terahertz (THz) range at the “Institut des Sciences Moléculaires d’Orsay” (U. Paris-Saclay), in the frame of the METEORIT project funded by the French National Research Agency.
Our team is interested in high-resolution molecular spectroscopy of astrophysically relevant molecules, radicals, and ions in a region covering the sub-millimeter to THz ranges. A large panel of experimental set-ups is available in our lab. It includes chirped-pulse millimeter wave and solid-state sub-millimeter/THz spectrometers, various type of plasma sources to generate ionic and radical species, various absorption cells and a supersonic jet. We also benefit from a privileged access to the far-infrared AILES beamline of SOLEIL synchrotron to perform high-resolution molecular spectroscopy of different molecular families.
The “METEORIT” collaborative project aims to develop a new THz spectrometer and to exploit it for precision spectroscopy measurements. The spectrometer will be referenced to an optical frequency standard, produced by the SYRTE laboratory in Paris and distributed through the REFIMEVE+ national network. The THz spectrometer will allow precision spectroscopy measurements on different molecular targets. The measurements will be performed under sub-Doppler conditions using the experimental set-ups already developed at ISMO. Such measurements are crucial in the context of astrophysical observations, for the construction of ultra-accurate energy levels of fundamental molecules, and ultimately for testing time and space variations of fundamental constants. The project covers a wide range of activities (instrumental design, recording and analysis of molecular spectra) and we are looking for highly motivated candidates possessing excellent molecular physics background.
Qualified candidates should hold a PhD in Physics, Physical Chemistry, or related fields. The position is 13 months if less than 2 years of experience since PhD defense (support will be provided to apply for external grant such as Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions).
