Several fully funded PhD and postdoctoral positions in computational and theoretical chemistry are available in the C2χ group of Prof. Marco Garavelli at the Department of Industrial Chemistry, University of Bologna, Italy, within the ERC Synergy project CONCERT.
CONCERT is an ambitious six-year endeavor aimed at uncovering the subtle quantum phenomena underlying photoinduced molecular processes and harnessing them to actively control photochemical reactions, ultimately turning the new vision of “quantum synthesis” into reality. In Bologna, we will develop the theoretical framework and computational tools necessary to achieve this goal. We will work in close collaboration with the other PIs of the CONCERT team—Prof. Giulio Cerullo (POLIMI), Dr. Caterina Vozzi (CNR), Dr. Fabrizio Santoro (CNR) and Prof. Shaul Mukamel (UCI)—as well as with a cohort of 14 PhD students and 20 postdoctoral researchers who will join this exciting project.
PhD positions are three-year appointments with a salary of €25,000 per year. The starting date is November 1, 2026. Applications must be submitted by the end of April 2026 (official call to be announced). Competitive selections are expected in May/June.
Postdoctoral positions are two-year appointments with renewable option. The starting date is negotiable, preferably before June 30, 2026. The salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and seniority, ranging from €27,000 to €55,000 per year.
Experience in excited-state calculations using multi-reference perturbative methods and in nonadiabatic molecular dynamics simulations of organic chromophores is particularly welcome. Familiarity with the simulation of electronic spectroscopic signals in the UV/VIS and/or XUV and/or Xray regimes is also highly desirable.
