We are inviting applications from talented researchers to work with time-integrated as well as time-resolved studies of free atoms and molecules using few-femtosecond pulses of XUV light (HHG generated in our in-house lab) as well time-integrated experiments at national and international synchrotron light sources.
Experimental methods
In-house experiments
The Division of Molecular and Condensed Matter has developed an in-house HHG source [1]–[5] where we have recently installed an ARTOF-2 photoelectron spectrometer. This now opens up the possibility to study femtosecond dynamics of dilute matter using a highly efficient detection method.
Synchrotron-based experiments
The MAX-IV synchrotron has recently been built in Sweden, and we see several fields of interest at this facility – primarily the field of studying dilute matter using Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS) at the VERITAS beamline.
Short description of the scientific questions
In-house experiments
For the time-resolved experiments we are interested in the temporal evolution of highly excited systems as well as wave-packet dynamics. This will be probed using pump-probe experiments combined with angularly resolved photoelectron spectroscopy.
Synchrotron-based experiments
We aim to study excited systems near ionization thresholds, in the time-integrated experiments this will be similar to the experiments in Ref. [6]. We are also interested in the effect of isotope substitution and how this affect the RIXS spectra, that are very sensitive to selection rules.
Who are you?
We are looking for a talented young researcher that will be a key driver in these studies. You have experience in several of the following areas:
– Low density matter science
– Synchrotron experiments
– HHG experiments
– fs laser systems
– Vacuum
– Data analysis, preferably in Igor Pro as the software for treating the ARTOF data is written in IGOR Pro
– Writing papers
– RIXS experiments
– XPS experiment
What do we offer?
A fully paid two-year Post Doc (1+1), paid health insurance, an open friendly work-environment. The Post Doc scholarship is equivalent to a salary of approximately 37 000 EUR/year.
How to apply?
The position is open now and will be filled as soon as the proper candidate is found, the starting date is expected to be in fall 2018.
Inquiries and application should be sent to: Johan.Soderstrom@physics.uu.se, for details about the department please see https://www.physics.uu.se/?languageId=1
The application should contain at least the following:
– Letter of motivation (personal letter)
– CV
– List of publications
– Two letters of recommendation, alternative academic references (including e-mail address)
– Earliest date you can start
