Postdoc for Ultrafast Optical and Terahertz Spectroscopy on Excitons and Charge Carriers in 2D Materials for Single-Photon Emitters at TU Delft, The Netherlands

A postdoc position is available for Ultrafast Optical and Terahertz Spectroscopy on Excitons and Charge Carriers in 2D Materials for Single-Photon Emitters.

The selected candidate will study the formation, motion and decay dynamics of photogenerated charge carriers and excitons in 2D (TMDC) materials for single-photon emitters. Photogenerated excitons and charge carriers need to travel to intentionally created defects sites in the material, such as atomic vacancies and local strain.
The candidate will use ultrafast pump-probe laser spectroscopy with optical (TA, PL) and terahertz conductivity detection to monitor the charge and exciton dynamics and the formation of excitons at the defects, where they should decay by single-photon emission.

Depending on their experience and interests, involvement in computational modelling (DFT/GW/BSE) of charge carriers and excitons is possible.

This fundamental project is a collaboration with two PhD students at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) where samples and photonic devices will be prepared, and two industrial partners, Toyota Motor Europe and Quix, the latter being a photonic quantum computing startup.

The candidate must have a relevant university degree in physics, materials science or chemistry and experience with ultrafast pump-probe laser spectroscopy.

The position is for 18 months. The selected candidate will be given a contract for four years with a monthly salary between € 3706 to € 5760 plus holiday and year-end allowances. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants.

The candidate must e-mail a letter of application, CV, list of bachelor/master courses with marks obtained, and recommendation letters to L.D.A.Siebbeles@tudelft.nl. Applications without all items mentioned above will not be considered. As soon as a suitable candidate has been found the vacancy will be filled and the application procedure will be closed.
