Two postdoctoral positions are now available in the Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery (KIIDD) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), within the group of Prof. Ying-Chih Chiang. We use computational approaches to study biochemical problems encountered during drug design, which includes discovering new drugs for receptors via docking, investigating the antibiotic resistance mechanism, as well as developing new tools for computational biology.
The two positions focus on different aspects of drug design. The first project aims at discovering new drugs for protein structures resolved locally at KIIDD. Thus, working knowledge in docking and related computational methods is essential. The second project aims at developing a new non-equilibrium method for equilibrium free energy calculations. Working experience in theoretical physics or theoretical chemistry and programming ability are essential.
Both positions last for 2 years, with the possibility of extension upon mutual agreement. The Shenzhen City government provides postdoctoral researchers who graduated from the top 200 universities world-wide a tax-free bonus of 300,000 RMB minimum. The monthly salary ranges from 5,000 to 8,000 RMB, depending on your experience. In addition, CUHK-SZ provides a yearly bonus based on your performance each year. Other benefits include relocation and housing allowance, health care and other social benefits are provided as well.
Project Description
Position 1: Drug discovery for protein structures resolved at KIIDD. The applicant should be familiar with docking and/or other structural based drug design methods and software. A PhD degree in biophysics, biochemistry, or theoretical chemistry is required.
Position 2: Developing a novel theory for equilibrium free energy calculations using non-equilibrium statistical mechanics . The applicant should be familiar with statistical mechanics or quantum mechanics and have experience in programming languages such as C/C++/Fortran and Python. A PhD degree in theoretical physics or theoretical chemistry is required.
Duties
- Conducting academic research in collaboration with the principal investigator (PI).
- Analyzing the research data, writing and publishing research articles.
- Undertaking other assignments related to research.
Qualifications and Requirements
The candidates should have a recent PhD degree and knowledge listed in the project description. Additionally, the applicant should be fluent in English (both in writing and in speaking) and have demonstrated the ability to finish a given task independently.
Application Procedure
Please directly contact Prof. Ying-Chih Chiang by sending a cover letter, CV (with list of publications), and the contact information of two references to: chiangyc@cuhk.edu.cn. Applications will be evaluated immediately, but the positions will remain open until suitable candidates have been found.
