Alice Green is seeking a motivated and talented Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to join her research group in the School of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh.
The position is part of a new EPSRC-funded project to build an advanced time-resolved Coulomb explosion imaging apparatus in the group’s laboratory. The setup will use high-repetition rate Ytterbium lasers to drastically increase the rate of data acquisition. The instrument will be used to image, with high fidelity, ultrafast molecular motion that occurs during photochemical reactions of isolated gas-phase molecules. These exciting experimental capabilities will be used to advance our understanding of fundamental photochemical reactivity.
The candidate must have completed a PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics, or a related discipline. Experience with ultrafast spectroscopy and charged-particle detection/imaging is essential. This role will involve significant instrument design and practical work. Experience in instrument design and construction, particularly of high-vacuum apparatuses, is therefore highly beneficial.
For further details about the position, please see the posting at https://elxw.fa.em3.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/CandidateExperience/en/sites/CX_1001/job/14800. For further information about the group and their research, please visit their website https://chem.ed.ac.uk/green-group. Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is a beautiful and historic city, with the centre of the city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Both the University and the School of Chemistry have rich histories, and candidates can learn more about the School at https://chem.ed.ac.uk/. She is more than happy to answer any informal inquiries about the position by email (alice.green@ed.ac.uk). Please be aware that the deadline for applications is the 2nd October 2026.
